Physics in the Field
It’s time to dig out our wellies and waterproofs again – Physics in the Field is back for summer 2008.
Following last year’s hugely successful, but rather damp, tour of the UK, the Institute’s physics in society team along with four of our local branches and a band of student volunteers will be bringing physics to a field near you.
The team will be performing physics tricks – hand-held demos using things you can find at home – and making sure you get a go too. Some of the tricks are messy, some are noisy, but all of them are guaranteed crowd pleasers that help to illustrate different areas of physics.
If you want to try the tricks yourself you can find a list of our favourite ones along with tips on how to perform them in our Physics to Go pack and a brand new trick is added to our Marvin and Milo series every month.
Look out for the Physics in the Field team at the following events this summer:
13 - 15 June: East of England County Show, Peterborough
14 - 15 June: Bradford Mela, Peel Park, Bradford
3 - 6 July: The Royal Show, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire
18 - 20 July: Camp Bestival, Lulworth Castle, Dorset
19 - 20 July: Inverness Highland Games, Bught Park Stadium, Inverness
15 - 17 Aug: Green Man Festival, Glanusk Park, Crickhowell, Wales
24 - 25 Aug: Newcastle Mela, Exhibition Park, Newcastle
5 - 7 Sept: Bestival, Robin Hill Country Park, Isle of Wight
By performing physics tricks at non-science events we aim to raise awareness of physics among people who wouldn’t normally choose to seek out science. So if you’ve seen us at one of these events, why not drop us a line and tell us what your favourite physics trick is? Email us at editor@physics.org
